What is Arts Integration?
The John F. Kennedy Center defines arts integration as “an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. Students engage in a creative process which connects an art form and another subject and meets evolving objectives in both.”
How can RiverCenter help me integrate the Arts in my classroom?
It varies. Arts integration is a process, or more specifically: a way of thinking. From choosing programming that is aligned with CCGPS to providing workshops for teachers, students, and parents; as well as, directing educators to great resources for lesson plans like the John F. Kennedy Center and Scholastic, to connecting you to other teachers not only through our teachers lounge, but through websites and resources like Edutopia. We wish to help you in whatever capacity is needed.
MCSD has stream lined how educators teach text annotation across the curriculum. This method is known as Comprehension Instructional Sequence Model (CISM). For most of our programming, we have included articles that are arts related, cross curricular, and geared to help educators transition to this method.
