Custodial Associate - Events Only
RiverCenter for the Performing Arts

REPORTS TO:  Facilities Coordinator
CLASSIFICATION:   On call; as needed; hourly with no guaranteed number of hours; Overtime eligible.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Custodial Associate – Events Only individual performs routine cleaning and maintenance in RiverCenter or assigned work areas on an on-call basis.   The primary responsibility is for effective use of proper methods and materials in cleaning, caring for building areas, and event equipment set-up.  


JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Custodial Associate primary duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Cleans and polishes lighting fixtures, marble surfaces, trim, rooms, hallways, restrooms, elevators, stairways, drinking fountains and other work areas.
  • Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors.
  • Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, draperies and blinds.
  • Dusts furniture and equipment; polishes metalwork.
  • Washes walls, windows, door panels, sills, ceiling and woodwork.
  • Empties wastebaskets, trash barrels and sweeps outside walks.  Transports trash and waste to disposal area.
  • Replenishes bathroom supplies and stocks lavatories and toilets.
  • Sets-up tables and chairs in Patrons Room, theatre, auditorium or hall and transports items or equipment between departments.  Moves office furniture and equipment as necessary.
  • Reports damaged structures and equipment.
  • Cleans grounds and removes litter.  Operates blower, pressure washer and small equipment as needed.


Experience and Education:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Requirements:

  • Ability to use cleaning tools and equipment such as: buffer, polisher, vacuum, carpet shampoo machine.
  • Ability to exercise care in the use of cleaning materials for different types of building surfaces.
  • Ability to read and write simple correspondence and comprehend simple instructions and convey information verbally.
  • Motivated; self-starter.  Able to work long hours at manual tasks. Flexible in work practices procedures or processes.
  • Ability to communicate well with employees at all levels as well as with the public in a polite, cooperative, and respectful behavior.
  • Required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
  • Required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and color vision.
  • May occasionally work near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and/or extreme heat.
  • Adheres to attendance policy as stated in the employee handbook; team player.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Facilities Coordinator.
  • Ability to communicate via mobile communication devises when needed.
  • Reliable/dependable transportation.

Schedule and Status:

No guaranteed number of work hours; no specific schedule but usually requiring evening and weekend duties. Events Only; Hourly, Overtime eligible.  

Registration, Certification or License:

Compensation:
Salary competitive with other area education and programming organizations, but has no other benefits.
